Assisting Young People with Continuing Education

Doug Boyd, founder and CEO

“During my last year as mayor of Knightdale, I started Doug Boyd Foundation,Inc. to provide financial assistance and scholarships to support higher education and other educational programs for youth in the community.

As a result of this effort,I have been able to assist young people who are desirous of continuing their education but are limited with their finances. These students show both promise and determination to succeed by school attendance, academic achievement, community leadership, church affiliations, offices held, and possible recommendations from those involved in the student’s life who can attest to the dignity and character of the student.”

The Doug Boyd Foundation was born from a commitment to service and community leadership. Founded by retired U.S. Army Lieutenant Colonel Doug Boyd, a former mayor of Knightdale, North Carolina, the Foundation emerged from a simple question: “What can I do for the community?” Following the advice of former North Carolina Congressman Dr. CR Edwards, Doug established this 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization with a clear mission—to help students not only get to college, but to keep them there. Since its inception, the Foundation has provided crucial financial support to students pursuing higher education, awarding $1,000 scholarships to those attending four-year institutions and $500 to technical college students. Beyond initial scholarships, the Foundation stands ready to assist students who encounter financial difficulties during their academic journey, ensuring that financial obstacles don’t derail educational dreams. Through an order-of-merit system that carefully assesses individual need in consultation with school counselors and families, the Foundation strives to support every qualified applicant. Success stories like Jasmine Williams, who received Foundation support twice—first for a public health study abroad program in Botswana during her undergraduate years at Meredith College, and later for her Peace Corps service—demonstrate the Foundation’s lasting impact. Today, powered primarily by its annual charity golf tournament and corporate sponsorships, the Doug Boyd Foundation continues its unwavering commitment to empowering youth through education, leadership training, and professional development support throughout local communities.
